B / E Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rockwell Collins Inc., is a leading manufacturer of aircraft interior products and we currently have some exciting positions based at our Leighton Buzzard facility, including a Design Engineer.
Reporting to the Engineering Project Lead, the Design Engineer researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and / or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and / or machines.
Key responsibilities include
The design and detail modelling of a variety of suite components in order to meet the programme requirements
The creation of Service Bulletins, Repair Schemes and Service Letters that meets the customers modifications or repair needs and that conform to EASA requirements through our DOA procedures
Managing and meeting cost and weight targets
Communicating effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers, translating technical information (Airbus, Boeing, Sukhoi and other Commercial airlines)
Participating in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process
The selection and application of materials and processes appropriate to each design element
Ensuring the successful integration of each design element with the product as a whole
Following and contributing to the development of the Best Practice guidelines as laid out in Quality documentation
Checking engineering packages
Generating and / or revising specifications
Participating in the validation of the product (using such methods as prototyping, test, DFMEA)
Any other reasonable duties
The successful candidate will have the following
Engineering degree or ONC / HNC in design related field and / or proven related experience.
Sufficient engineering capability and experience to create effective engineered solutions
Competent user of the incumbent CAD and data management systems Teamcentre and NX v 7.5 or Catia preferred
A working knowledge of the principle of electrical installation and systems integration and design including 3D mechanical design experience, preferably in NX or Catia.
A working knowledge of the various methods of manufacture of electrical and mechanical components and assemblies
An understanding of material selection
An understanding of protective treatments
An understanding of aircraft interior architecture with a working knowledge of Boeing, Airbus requirements (D6-36440 etc)
An understanding of the best practice for the integration of mechanical and electrical systems
Awareness of the certification framework within which the work is undertaken
A good working knowledge of the companies change control process
A good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Effective oral and written communication skills
Good team working skills
The ability to work with a low level of supervision and intervention
Willing to travel to support company objectives
