We are seeking applications from people with the energy, passion and vision needed to collaborate on the design and delivery of our professional architecture programmes.

The successful applicant will be an inspiring and creative designer with leadership experience in higher education and / or architectural practice.

You will join a collegiate teaching and research-active department that has strong links to leading national and local practices, is ranked as a top 3 school by the AJ top 100 practices, and holds a top 5 position in the Guardian league table.

This Programme Leader post is instrumental to sustaining the ongoing success of architectural education at the University of Nottingham.

Our professional architecture programmes encourage creative rigour, offering a diverse range of design studios that provide students with the opportunity to pursue their interests and tailor the skills they take into practice.

We believe that a blended research- and practice-informed approach best underpins programme delivery and welcome applications from individuals who can apply their practice experience, or research, to complement our existing offer.

This will be through the delivery of a vibrant design studio and well-prepared, informed and engaging lectures. You must also be able to clearly articulate how your leadership skills will shape a wider programme offer structured to equip our students with the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to succeed as the designers of the future.

We are looking for someone who can reflect on their personal experience and background to provide evidence of their ability to :

  • devise and sustain practice- or research-informed studio projects that allow students to demonstrate design innovation and excellence;
  • innovate in the generation of new knowledge related to the field of architecture and disseminate this through the production of high quality research output (R&T applicants only);
  • provide curriculum leadership within their own area of expertise that is appropriate to the responsibilities of this role and that responds to the current developments in the landscape of architectural education and practice;
  • devise thought provoking lecture series that are informed by their interests and experience and deliver these to a high standard;
  • collaborate with colleagues and / or students to deliver outcomes that would not be possible if they were working alone; and
  • relate to and mentor students and / or colleagues who are increasingly ethnically and gender diverse.
  • This is a full time permanent post, however job share arrangements may be considered.

    This may be work that you have completed as an individual, collaboratively or by students working in design studios you have led.

    Please provide a short narrative to contextualise your portfolio.

    If you are applying for the Research and Teaching (R&T) post, please in addition upload a list of your research outputs as a separate document.

    This should highlight those outputs that you feel would achieve at least a 3* rating as defined by the guidance on quality in the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) :

    Four star Quality that is world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour

    Three star - Quality that is internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour but which falls short of the highest standards of excellence.

    Two star - Quality that is recognised internationally in terms of originality, significance and rigour.

    One star - Quality that is recognised nationally in terms of originality, significance and rigour.

    Unclassified - Quality that falls below the standard of nationally recognised work. Or work which does not meet the published definition of research for the purposes of this assessment.

    Where appropriate, please provide impact factors (or alternative metrics) that indicate the standing of the forum within which your work appears.
