The Critical Care Practice Development Team, at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, is looking for a highly motivated, innovative Critical Care nurse to join them.

This role provides not only a fantastic career opportunity but also the chance to be involved, in shaping the future of Critical Care nursing, at GSTT.

Located in the centre of London, Guy’s & St Thomas’ has one of the largest Critical Care departments in the UK. Currently there are over 100 Critical Care beds (70 of which are level 3) across 9 units :

Intensive Care Units - 2 ICUs at St Thomas' & 1 at Guy's (43 beds), with a new ICU to be opened September 2018

Surgical HDU (4 beds)

Cardiothoracic HDU (10 beds)

Overnight Intensive Recovery - Cardiothoracic Intensive Care (11 beds)

Lane Fox Respiratory Unit (14 beds)

As a Practice Development Nurse in our team, you will be involved in all aspects of nurse training, including :

  • Management & delivery of induction programmes for new starters & pre-registration students
  • Review, planning & commissioning of internal & external courses / educational programmes
  • Teaching on the 'Introduction to Critical Care Course' (KHP collaborative course)
  • Developing & implementing new initiatives in Critical Care education to support an expanding service
  • Provision of hands on clinical support for new starters & other learners on the units
  • Coordination & management of (Band 6) Clinical Educators, working with the PDT for 6-9 month secondments
  • Collaborating with Matrons, Clinical Managers, Heads of Nursing & the Multidisciplinary Team to review & develop the educational strategy
  • Successful applicants will need to fulfill the following criteria :

  • Registered Adult Nurse with significant Critical Care experience
  • Critical Care shift management experience
  • Completion of both the Intensive Care Course & Mentorship Qualification
  • Excellent Mentorship Skills & extensive experience mentoring pre & post registration nurses
  • Previous experience of teaching (formal or informal)
  • Highly motivated, with a passion for developing & supporting staff
  • Forward thinking & keen to develop new strategies for the future
