A leading manufacturing company based in Redditch require a Toolroom Supervisor to join their team based on a Full time -
39h / week - Mon-Thu 8 : 00AM-5 : 00PM and Fri 8 : 00AM - 1 : 00PM. Candidates should be able to show considerable previous tool making experience
Makes or improves different types of tools to enable the production processes to be as efficient as possible. This may include jigs, fixtures, clamps or moulds to obtain a more robust consistently produced part that meets the specification of the customer.
Responsible for the repair, maintenance and improvement to all tooling dies, jigs, fixtures and fittings for press tools, CNC equipment in line with production and customer requirements to support business objectives.
Support new tooling for new product introductions to ensure the robustness of product builds. Work on many phases or sub-
tasks of projects or entire projects of moderate complexity, with results impacting on project completion. Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading the team.
Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.
cut and shape tools using a combination of lathes, presses and cutting machines
follow engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for the tool
use hand tools such as files, hacksaws and grinders
check dimensions with precision measuring instruments like micrometers and gauges
assemble, fit and repair tools
using 2D and 3D computer aided design and manufacturing software (CAD / CAM)
monitor the tools used on the manufacturing line to ensure efficient run rates and identify necessary repairs or possible improvements
routine servicing and regrinding of tools
attend machine breakdowns to identify the root cause and solve the problem
report breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management
Ensure all work is undertaken to a high quality standard and adheres to all
quality standard regulations
Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice tool room vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
Supervise / Manage the running and plan activities of the tool room facilities and toolmakers, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements
Manage, coach and develop a high performing tool room team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
Support new project tooling from commissioning stages through to start of
Assist in tooling buyoffs and trials
Manufacture new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity
and customer deadlines
Carry out engineering level changes to tools and modifications
Qualifications / Experience
GCSE Level A-C, IVQ Technician certificate, BTec first certificate or equivalent NVQ level 2 qualification
Considerable previous tool making experience
Understanding of TS16949 and ISO 14001
Experience of working to tight production targets
Experience of operating / running EDM machines - wire eroding
Toolroom supervising experience
Knowledge / Skills
