  • The Software Engineering / Development Manager plays a criticalrole in providing leadership, management, direction and vision to softwareengineers and / or development employees including offshorecontractors / consultants and interns needed to support, run, and changeactivities in the software development life cycle.

    They work closely with development peers, product and projectleaders / managers, and other in-house software developers as well as direct thesuccessful completion and delivery of respective software components and anyother related deliverables.

    The Development Manager is additionally expected toreport progress to senior management. Additional responsibilities includeidentifying and supporting talent, and defining resource requirements andallocations.

    The successful candidate will need to hit the ground running,with a proven track record of commercial experience in an equivalent role.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Successfully lead large onshore and offshoreresources in solving complex business needs.
  • Perform reviews to ensure enterprise andarchitectural standards and processes are followed.
  • Complete management responsibilities to includeperformance management, hiring and coaching of staff, and resource planning.
  • Coordinate the production of advanced complexsoftware and serve as a senior source of expertise.
  • Manage system and user acceptance testing cycles toensure accurate and quality business solutions.
  • Lead the development of technical standards, andperform reviews to ensure enterprise and architectural standards and processesare followed.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact forexternal technology resources.
  • Recommend technical strategy and direction acrossfunctional area.
  • Participate in development and evolution of architecture.
  • Provide design input across a product.
  • Work directly with customers and end users.
  • Serve as acknowledged go to person on coding andtechnical issues.
  • Interface with other technical personnel or teammembers to finalize requirements.
  • Write and review portions of detailed specificationsfor the development of system components of moderate complexity.
  • Seek diverse ideas and perspectives from a variety ofsources to create better solutions, products, and services.
  • Carry out management responsibilities in accordancewith the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees;
  • planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding anddisciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Ensure all staff is provided with training andresources needed to perform their jobs to the most outstanding degree possible.
  • Ensure all staff is provided with frequent feedback and coaching in order tomeet and exceed individual and team performance goals consistently.

  • Manage and encourage new ideas from staff to fosterimprovements through innovations.
  • Empower the staff to be accountable and responsiblefor their own actions and decisions.
  • Required Experience :

  • Proven experience working in a similar role,preferably within a large organisation.
  • BSc Engineering / Computer Science or equivalentqualification.
  • Expertise and proven experience in various staffingand resource models.
  • Extensive development experience across a broadportfolio of projects.
  • Expertise in techniques for design and code reviewsof offshore technical proposals.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in project planningand management tools to manage project progress, budget, and scope.
  • Experience leading multiple development teams.
  • Experience in code reviews and development approaches.
  • Expertise in industry best practices in offshorepartnership development.
  • Proven ability to lead test-driven development andmaintenance.
  • Industrywide or broad companywide technical knowledge.
  • Track record of developing solutions to be deployedin cloud environments, preferably AWS.
  • Essential :

  • Excellent technical leadership, communication andpresentation skills.
  • Agile Software Development, Scrum.
  • Ability to engage and liaise with stakeholders acrossall functions.
  • Implementation, integration and management of complexsolutions (distributed, multi-platform, multi-technology).
  • Excellent problem-solving ability including leadingteams to identify, research and coordinate resources to diagnose andtroubleshoot complex issues.
  • Advanced organization / project planning, timemanagement, and change management skills across multiple functional groups anddepartments, and advanced delegation skills involving prioritizing andreprioritizing projects and managing projects of various size and complexity.
  • Strong experience of .NET, MVC, Web API andJavaScript SPA frameworks (preferably React / React Native).
  • Experience of on-premise, virtualisation and cloudbased infrastructure using Amazon Web Services or Azure.
  • Solid knowledge of Security Engineering bestpractices.
  • DevOps, Build and Deployment automation (Puppet,TeamCity, Docker desirable).
  • Experience on Windows Server and Linux Operatingsystems.
  • Experience of performance and load testing approaches.
  • Strong skills in setting, communicating,implementing, and achieving business objectives and goals through the directmanagement of others.
  • Strong organization / project planning, timemanagement, and change management skills across multiple development teams.
  • Advanced problem-solving experience involving leadingteams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary toeffectively troubleshoot / diagnose complex project issues;
  • prior successextracting / translating findings into alternatives / solutions; and identifyingrisks / impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making.

  • Advanced communication (verbal and written), stronginterpersonal, communication, and presentation skills applicable to a wideaudience including senior and executive management, customers
  • Desirable :

  • Experience with search solutions (MarkLogic,Elasticsearch, SOLR).
  • Experience of NoSQL and graph database platforms(preferred MarkLogic).
  • Experience with cross-platform mobile applicationdevelopment, preferably with React Native.
