Recording in the shift log all events occurring and actions taken during the shift, including daily plant logs.
Collecting and entering all information required to produce accurate Maintenance Records, Planned Preventative Maintenance Records, Engineering Request Completion Forms Downtime Reports and any other reports or records that may be issued by the company.
Making prompt requests for replacement of any parts used or required.
Achieving minimal production line downtime during the harvest season.
Nature and Scope
This position is part of a small team reporting to the Manufacturing Manager.
The incumbent will work closely with all members of the Production and Technical teams, but will be expected to use his / her own initiative and be able to work without constant supervision.
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the optimum efficiency of all plant and machinery during the shift, delivering the highest product safety and quality with minimum downtime to enable maximum throughput without compromising health and safety.
Harvesting of the current product range is largely summer seasonal, with processing mainly scheduled between, but not restricted to, May and November, it is necessary for Production to operate a rotating four shift pattern throughout the harvest, during this period it is required that Engineering cover is provided 24 / 7 by the Engineers operating on a call out rota.
Outside this season, reprocessing, blending and custom packing is undertaken, various Production shifts may be implemented depending on production requirements.
The incumbent takes hands on responsibility for the smooth running of all plant and equipment during the shift, ensuring that this continues to operate within agreed product safety guidelines as well as health and safety guidelines.
Any faults or irregularities evident during the shift will be reported to the Manufacturing Manager and, if serious enough to represent a danger to the product and / or workforce, the incumbent has â€ with the approval of the Manufacturing Manager â€ the authority to suspend production and, if required, evacuate the premises.
In common with all other positions, the incumbent must adhere to Good Manufacturing Procedures, the Companyâ€™s hygiene Policy and Health and Safety Policy, taking all reasonable care for product safety, their own and all others health and safety at all times.
The incumbent will be required to maintain and carry out any necessary repairs to premises, buildings and services as directed by the Manufacturing Manager or Site Manager.
Due to the Engineers knowledge of the plant and services layouts, the Engineer will be expected to liaise with the Emergency Services in the event of a fire, medical or other emergency.
Carrying out routine and Planned Preventative Maintenance on equipment and engineering services as directed by the Manufacturing Manager.
Carrying out repairs / adjustments as required during routine and Planned Preventative Maintenance and / or as directed by the Manufacturing Manager.
Identifying the cause of plant or equipment failure and carrying out remedial repair work in a safe, speedy and efficient fashion.
Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety guidelines, specifically ensuring that all services to plant and equipment is isolated prior to repair and lock off arrangements are used effectively as necessary.
Carrying out health and safety maintenance as directed by the Manufacturing Manager or in response to a request for remedial work from the Shift Manager.
Sourcing and negotiating appropriate short-term equipment supply, referring all purchase orders to the Manufacturing Manager for approval.
Responding to corrective maintenance requests from Shift Production Managers.
Advising Shift Production Managers and Supervisors on the best possible practices and operation of plant and equipment in order to maximise throughput of quality product.
Assisting Service Engineers, Subcontractors & Suppliers with servicing, repairing & installing plant & equipment as required.
Operating as a proactive, flexible and co-operative member of the Engineering and Production teams.
Attending meetings and training sessions / courses as required by the company.
Advising the company about any modifications to plant, equipment or procedures that would improve product quality and / or throughput or reduce operating costs.
Carrying out other duties, principally as required by the Manufacturing Manager or the Site Manager.
Internal : Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Site Manager, Technical Manager, Shift Managers, Supervisors, and Factory Operatives.
External : Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Service Engineers, Subcontractors, and Suppliers.
In the absence of this position these responsibilities are delegated to the Manufacturing Â Manager.
To ensure product safety and quality by following Good Manufacturing Practices, (GMP), Â whilst implementing Planned Preventative Maintenance, (PPM), and responding promptly to breakdowns.
To minimise the downtime of all production plant and equipment, by implementing Planned Preventative Maintenance and responding promptly to breakdowns.
To maintain the premises, buildings, services and equipment as required.
Ideally the incumbent will hold City and Guilds in Electro / Mechanical or Process Engineering, A 17th Edition qualification is ideal.
Someone with relevant experience in a similar role, who is willing to attend courses to gain the appropriate qualifications, would be considered.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and proactive and able to demonstrate initiative and a logical approach to problem solving.

The successful candidate must be available to be part of a call our rota to cover 24 / 7 operations durring the herb processing season.
