WYG are currently looking to appoint a new full time Technician / Senior Technician for their Waste and Resource Management team in their Nottingham office to assist with the Quality Assurance, Compliance services and Permitting areas of the business.

Work will be a mix of office-based and on site work, or from other offices or clients’ premises as required by the project.

May very occasionally be required to work away from home for periods of time.

Our specialist waste team helps clients to develop new waste resource and management facilities whilst maintaining full regulatory compliance.

The range of skills and disciplines we bring together starts with risk and issue assessment and runs through to designing state-

of-the-art waste management facilities. We can help to identify possible pollution risks, reduce waste volume, and make proposals for economic and environmentally-

friendly disposal options.

The position is for a permanent position within the Waste and Resource Management Team.

About You :

The exact details of the role and responsibilities will be flexible and dependent on the experience of the applicant, but may be expected to include the following : -

  • Collating and checking data from site based Engineers;
  • Assisting in the preparation of Compliance and Quality Assurance (CQA) Plans and Reports for submission to the Environment Agency;
  • Attending site based pre-start and progress meetings during ongoing engineering works;
  • Carrying out Quality Assurance inspections of engineering works to landfill containment systems;
  • Providing office based back up and technical assistance for site base Engineers;
  • Preparing and assisting with Environmental Permit applications for waste management facilities and minerals developments.
  • This could include landfill, recycling, transfer and treatment facilities as well as mineral extraction and quarrying;
  • Preparing and assisting with risk / impact assessments, minerals safeguarding reports, planning policy and need reviews and post submission work including assisting with public inquiries and expert witness work;
  • Preparing and assisting with proposals and tenders for new work. Assisting with business development, client contact, market research, attending client meetings, etc; and
  • On occasion, carrying out routine site work in respect of gas and groundwater environmental monitoring.
  • The post holder may be able to gain experience of other roles from time to time when opportunities arise, including topographical surveying and local authority waste service provision.

    Key Competencies

    Skills : Understanding of the English planning system and its application. Interest in the waste and minerals industries, including the Environmental Permitting system.

    Familiarity with methods and technologies employed in waste management, and legislation & guidance affecting these sectors would be an advantage.

    Qualifications : First degree or MSc in Environmental Sciences, sufficient to meet the academic requirements for full membership of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management.

    Experience : Would suit newly qualified graduate looking for a permanent position

    Personal Qualities : full UK driving license, able to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
