Producer Job DescriptionJob title ProducerReports to Executive Director Working hours 35 hours per weekJob purpose The Producer is responsible for producing responsibilities across the company in line with our business plan, starting with a busy year in 2019 to celebrate Clean Break’s 40th anniversary.

Clean Break is devoted to creating extraordinary theatre that fuses the work of leading women writers and artists with the work and experiences of our Members (women with experience of criminal justice).

The Producer role is central to this work. Key responsibilities 1 Work with the Artistic Directors and Executive Director to take Clean Break shows and projects, in various stages of development, into production.

2 Support the team with the development of new ideas, collaborations and partnerships and facilitate creative conversations across the company with internal and external stakeholders.

3 Work closely with the Artistic Directors and the senior team to produce realistic and deliverable production and projects schedules with clear project plans and milestones.

4 Book Clean Break tours by negotiating with theatres and venues (including prisons) across the UK to secure the best deals and partnerships for Clean Break.

5 Work with the Head of Finance to create project budgets and support the Development Team with information for funding applications.

6 Work collaboratively with the Artistic Directors to drive projects forward including budget management and ensuring that budgets remain up to date at all stages of each project .

7 Work closely with the Head of Development and Communications on audience development plans.8 Support the wider team in fulfilling other producing responsibilities including Members’ onsite work, prison residencies and other offsite work that may not take the form of a conventional’ theatre show.

9 With the Artistic Directors, collaborate with co-producers and directors to employ industry leading creative teams and casts.

10 Be a strong ambassador and advocate for the company’s future plans, and act as a key contact point for venues and artists and maintain strong relationships throughout.

11 Maintain confidentiality and adhere to other Clean Break codes of practice, including Health & Safety.12 Carry out other tasks as reasonably required by the Artistic Directors or Executive Director.

13 Maintain active and dynamic communications across the staff team about production plans.Other14 Attend team meetings, staff meetings and training workshops, and other meetings as required by the Head of Operations.

15 Respond to requests for regular information and updates for the company website and social media activity from the Marketing team.

16 Keep up-to-date with company news and activity, and external information circulating which is relevant to our work. Use every opportunity externally to talk about Clean Break’s work and share the company’s mission, values, strategic aims and impact.

17 Actively engage with a culture of fundraising, work closely with the Development Team to support this throughout the organisation.

Introduce prospects and pass on leads for research to the Development Team.18 Play an active role in ensuring equality of opportunity, in accordance with the company’s equality and diversity policy and action plan.

19 Maintain confidentiality and adhere to other Clean Break codes of practice and policies. 20 Participate in the staff rota for locking / unlocking the building as required.

21 Enter professional commitments and weekly plans including meetings, visitors, work off-site, TOIL and annual leave as agreed, in order to maintain the company diary and room schedule.

22 Carry out other tasks as reasonably required by the Head of Operations.PRODUCER PERSON SPECIFICATION You will have most or all of these and be able to evidence them in your application / at interview : Essential

  • At least three years’ experience of producing professional productions, including preparing and managing significant budgets
  • Strong relationships with venues and understanding of the key networks and opportunities for Clean Break to tap into
  • Proven ability of negotiating deals and contracts arrangements with venues and partners
  • Experience of financial management and budget-control
  • Experience of making co-production deals and working positively with multiple co-producers
  • Experience of resolving problems creatively
  • Experience of maintaining clear personal / professional boundaries in a work environment
  • Experience of coming into contact with a wide range of people in a working environment
  • Conscientious and good attention to detail
  • Experience of working with computer systems
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current developments in contemporary theatre. Desirable
  • Understanding of the needs of women with experience of the criminal justice system, and / or of addiction and mental ill-health
  • Experience of touring theatre
  • Experience of working with non-professional actors in artistic projectsIn line with all Clean Break appointments, the post is :
